Sole, a top-rated treadmill company, introduced the affordable F65 Folding Treadmill for the 2011 model year. The F65 is an upgrade to the F63. It has the same 15% incline but features a longer track and a more powerful motor. Although it folds, this machine weighs 250 pounds and has a 350-pound user weight capacity.

What We Like

  • Compact Design: The F65 can be folded to save space, but a unique horseshoe design helps make the unit very sturdy.
  • High-Quality Motor: Sole’s 2.75 CHP motor is comparable to 3.0 HP motors from other brands. It’s cooled by heavy-duty flywheels for durability and is surprisingly quiet.
  • Above-Average Track: The Sole F65’s track is two-ply for durability. The 58”x20” workout area is long enough for most runners, especially when the incline is used. Furthermore, the treadmill’s CushionFlex technology has been proven to reduce joint impact by up to 40% when compared with road running.
  • Heart Rate Monitors: Hand pulse grips and a wireless chest strap are included.
  • Extras: Cooling fans are built into the console, and incline and speed controls are placed conveniently on the armrests.
  • Good warranty: Sole warranties are among the best in the business. The F65 Folding Treadmill includes a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor, a three-year warranty on electronics and parts, and one year of labor. It compares well against warranties for similarly-priced treadmills.

What We Don’t Like

  • Few programs: Compared with pricier Sole treadmills, the F65 has a very basic console. It includes six standard programs and has space for two user-defined programs. Some trainees would quickly become bored.

  • No Heart Rate Control: Although the treadmill gives heart rate readings, it doesn’t have heart rate control programs. That is, it doesn’t adapt workouts in response to cardio data. More advanced treadmills include heart rate control to help make workouts more efficient.

Our Verdict

The Sole F65 Treadmill (Folding) is a pretty good value. Its commercial-grade motor and cushioned track can support many years of use. However, this treadmill is designed for people who don’t need advanced workout programs, an iPod hookup, or similar entertainment in order to keep exercising regularly. The 5.65 Folding Treadmill by Smooth looks like a better option. It includes 40 workouts and an iPod hookup – and it’s often priced lower than the Sole F65.
