Common Issues with the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 and How to Fix

I’ve had a NordicTrack Commercial 1750 in my own home since 2022 without many problems. But as you read up the reviews online, you’ll see there’s plenty that can go wrong with even the best of machines. The biggest complaint I’m seeing these days involves programming and the iFit app, and I remind people it’s really no different than any other computer program. Most of the times it’s a really simple fix.

But right off the bat, I’ll tell you that regular maintenance and cleaning rule the day. The better maintained your treadmill is, the fewer problems you’ll have. Contacting Customer Service is always an option, as is consulting the user’s manual. But here I’ll outline some of the more common issues I’ve heard of. Personally, I have a Sole F80 here at my home along with a NordicTrack Commercial 1750, 1250, EXP 7i, and Echelon Stride 5s. The only real difference I’ve found between these machines in terms of troubleshooting is the app involved. The good news is so long as you’re an iFit member, you can contact their support site here. If you’ve let your iFit membership lapse, then there’s still plenty of forums and discussion sites where you can get the help you need.

But if you’re having issues with the NordicTrack Commercial 1750, it’s probably one of the following, and there’s easy fixes:

  • The treadmill belt starts and stops
  • The iFit app won’t let you in
  • The belt is slipping or sticking
  • The incline/decline isn’t working
  • The speed is inconsistent

How to Reset and Recalibrate a NordicTrack Commercial 1750

Right off the bat, this is probably the answer to most problems with the newer units. You can check out the NordicTrack reset guide here for reference. This type of reset works on model versions beginning with 7.1. You can check this by looking at your settings and on the home screen, or in the user manual. You can also check just by checking your console, and if your machine has a USB or HDMI port, it’s probably not compatible with this process. But the fact is it’s pretty simple, although not explicitly explained anywhere. Any iFit-enabled machine these days comes with a lot of computerized hardware, and just like your smartphone and tablet, it requires updates. Depending upon your WiFi connection, or even if you’re not using iFit by way of the paid app, this is still going to happen. If there happens to be a lot of static electricity in the room where your treadmill is, this will definitely be an issue. But I’ve also just come to accept that anything Bluetooth and WiFi will need a reboot once in a while.

Step 1: Make sure you Wi-Fi is turned on and you have a paperclip on hand.

Step 2: Turn the treadmill off at the power switch located at the bottom front of the treadmill.

Step 3: Locate the “pinhole” for factory reset. This will vary by model number, but it will be either on the back of the console or on one of the sides. It’s a small hole. Refer to your owner’s manual if you have difficulty.

Step 4: Insert the paper clip and press down. While holding it in place, have someone else flip the power switch back on. Once your machine’s screen lights up, remove the paper clip.

Step 5: You should see the iFit logo come up on the screen with the message “system recovery: please wait.” This is a boot-up screen. It may take up to 30 minutes to reset. If this doesn’t work, repeat the paper clip process and try again.

Step 6: If the factory reset worked, you’ll be prompted to reconnect your Wi-Fi, select your unit of measure, and select time zone. Once connected to the Wi-Fi, the machine will automatically update the most current software.

If this doesn’t work, or perhaps your machine pre-dates iFit, I’d recommend contacting customer service. Click here for the link.

What If The Incline/Decline or Speed Doesn’t Work?

In most cases, a factory reset will also fix this as sometimes the units of measure fall out of alignment. If for some reason your treadmill has become calibrated to kilometers instead of miles, for instance, that can make a difference. Also, do a quick check to make sure the buttons aren’t sticking and open the motor hood at the front to check to see that motor isn’t covered up in dust, or perhaps come loose. If there’s a problem with the motor you should be able to see that. If all else fails, contact customer support.

My experience is maintenance prevents most of these problems, particularly when it comes to dust build-up and lubrication of the belt. If you fail to lubricate the belt every 40 hours of use or three months, then that places a lot of stress on the motor. The good news about new 1750s is there’s a lifetime warranty on the motor.

Issues With the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 Belt

Again, most of the complaints I see stem from long periods of non-use or perhaps forgetting to lube the belt. No one is born knowing they have to lubricate a treadmill belt, but it’s important. This is particularly true if you’re using it frequently, or perhaps if you’re in a dusty area. You’ll want to lube the belt with silicone every three months or 40 hours of usage, whichever comes first. Never use WD-40 or a petroleum-based lubricant as that will eat away at the fibers of the belt. The silicone lube is easy to find and really cheap. For a complete walk-through on how to lube a belt you can read here. But really, it’s as simple as lifting the belt up a bit and squirting a pattern across the deck before letting the belt run across it and smear. Make sure you get it equally distributed across both sides, left and right.

If you’re having a problem alignment, or belt slippage, you can loosen the belt and retighten it easily enough. I’ve written a guide here which is more generalized for all models at Treadmill Belt Tension and Alignment. To work on the belt of a NordicTrack Commercial 1750, you’ll need a Phillips head screwdriver. Aligning, tightening, or loosening the belt, is required when you see it drifting to one side or the other, or worse, flapping or skipping. As with any maintenance work on the deck, always make sure you’re machine is unplugged and completely off before getting your hands near the working parts.

To operate properly, the treadmill belt must be loose enough to gently lift up from the deck a couple inches with a finger, but snug enough that you have to pull. You can adjust either side of the belt, right or left, to get it perfectly centered down the middle. Inserting the screwdriver into the notches located at the rear of the deck, you can turn the bolts clockwise to tighten the belt, and counterclockwise to loosen it. Be careful as you do this because even a quarter turn makes a big difference. You don’t want the belt too tight or too loose, but rather just right.

If you fail to lubricate and clean the belt, it can get worn down from friction between it and the dust particles on the deck. A belt may want to drift over time due to the way you walk or run. Perhaps your stride is a little heavier on the left. Knowing you can adjust it can go a long way to preventing a problem which will require

If you do have to change a treadmill belt let me tell you, it’s not rocket science, but it can be a chore you want to avoid. You’ll see a step-by-step guide here and be sure to buy the right sized replacement belt from either Amazon.com.

When To Call For Help With A NordicTrack Commercial 1750

As a rule, I’d say call customer service any time you feel the problem is one you don’t understand. What’s simple for one person is not so simple for another. We’ve done a piece here on how to fix a treadmill motor but I’d say if you’re unused to small motor repair you’re probably better off just calling the manufacturer and asking about the warranty. The good news is NordicTrack is a great brand and replacement parts are easy to find. Most problems can be handled with a simple reset and recalibration, but using your own judgment you should be able to determine next steps if a part needs replacement. And as with all things, it never hurts to check your owners’ manual. If  you’ve lost your owner’s manual, you can click right here for another copy online.
