NordicTrack Commercial 1750 Review

Quick Summary

New and improved for 2022, the Commercial 1750 treadmill comes into the home fitness market as perhaps one of the best buys-for-the-money around. Priced online at $2,299 with free delivery and one month of the iFit Family Membership, the new features added make it a top pick for shoppers looking to spend less than $2,000. I heartily recommend the in-home installation service offered as it took the delivery crew less than 20 minutes to have me up and running after brining it inside my home. A perennial top pick from the NordicTrack lineup, it’s frequently matched with pricing specials throughout the year so stay tuned for deals.

The 1750 is entry-level for NordicTrack’s Commercial Series; more advanced models in the Series like the 2450 and 2950 have a few additional bonuses such as superior motors and bigger touchscreens. However, those premium features come with a premium price tag. The popular 1750 will satisfy most runners and offers especially great value for walkers and joggers.

Built iFit-enabled, the NordicTrack 1750 is engineered so as to allow professional trainers in remote locations control the speed and incline of the machine while participating in live workouts. The iFit app, which can be downloaded onto mobile devices or smart televisions, allows users to keep their workouts exciting through virtual runs across the globe from the comfort of their home. The impressive price point, display, and foldable storage option makes this machine a strong choice for casual runners. A sharp design and thick running belt are merely the first impressive features that you’ll notice when considering this machine.

NordicTrack has launched their 2022 update to the treadmill with a host of improvements. The 10-inch HD touchscreen is now a 14-inch tilt and pivot HD touchscreen and the console has been upgraded with premium audio speakers. The incline and decline function have been improved tremendously for a faster response, and along with the iFit-enabling, the treadmill is also outfitted for ActivePulse Cardio Cruise Control. Whereas iFit allows trainers to control the treadmill from remote locations, ActivePulse Cardio Cruise Control enables the treadmill to automatically adjust to match your heart rate. If hitting and maintaining particular heart rate is important to your workout, this is a great new tool. Activation does require a separate purchase of SmartBeat forearm heart rate monitor. Having used the ActivePulse option myself, I can tell you the sweat is real as the machine pops up a message informing you whether your heart rate is too low or too high and automatically adjusts accordingly.

Introduction

The NordicTrack Commercial 1750 is ranked a top-rated folding treadmill every year. Its strengths span from a 22 x 60-inch cushioned deck to a feature-rich console with premium audio speakers, Bluetooth technology, and a 14-inch smart HD touchscreen which now tilts and pivots. Also built with power incline/decline, the Commercial 1750 is one of the best treadmills for iFit workouts with simulated outdoor routes and Google Maps Workout Technology.

The Commercial 1750 includes the iFit app with Google Street View which provides users with a huge range of exercise options every day. Virtual trainers will even educate trainees about the location they are running through during the workout. iFit does require a monthly subscription to unlock its full features. For those who aren’t interested in paying this after their 30-day iFit membership that’s included with the 1750 runs out, the machine does work in manual mode, although there are no on-board workouts. Users do a number of other options by way of Bluetooth headphone connectivity and an accessory shelf for other devices, as well as Google Maps Workouts which can take them anywhere around the world.

Irrespective of workouts selected, the 1750’s incline and decline ranges from -3 to +15, allowing trainees to build muscle and become stronger runners/walkers. The incline and decline will automatically adjust to the terrain during workouts to more accurately represent the location they virtually move through. An impressive feature to help runners forget they are on a stationary machine!

The belt is slightly wider than the industry standard treadmill, measuring 22 inches x 60 inches and also thicker for added comfort and to keep things quiet. There’s also a flex cushioning option that can reduce impact on joints by up to 30%. Here, runners can turn off the cushioning to replicate the feel of running on asphalt, an important feature for runners with previous injuries or joint pain, as well as those training for a road race or looking for varying terrain feels.

As for convenience, the Commercial 1750 is foldable with EasyLift™ Assist technology, allowing users to tuck the machine away for storage when not in use. It’s an important and underrated feature for owners with smaller living spaces. That said, the treadmill can still hold up to 300lbs, which is quite strong for a foldable model.

This cardio trainer is entry-level in its series, yet powerful enough for runners and durable enough for shared use. Performance specs include a high quality 3.5 CHP motor, power incline/decline, and deck suspension with two firmness settings.

Workout Programs

The NordicTrack Commercial 1750 comes not only with iFit programming, but Google Maps Workout Technology and Bluetooth headphone connectivity. For a deeper look into iFit, read our thorough review here. With more than 17,000 routines in their library and more added every week, the big feature is live interactive workouts where the trainers can control the machine settings. Like most apps, the iFit program can be taken on the road by way of a download, or used in conjunction with a smart television set with other equipment.

iFit sorts treadmill programs vary by difficulty level, making it easy to find the right challenge for your needs. The app also makes exercise recommendations based on your recent activity and fitness goals. One downside to the new Commercial 1750 is the lack of built-in programming. The machine can be used in manual mode and does have Bluetooth audio and heart rate connectivity though, meaning if one falls out of love with iFit, there are always options.

Fitness App Compatibility

Speaking of other options, on a treadmill already fitted with an integrated screen and iFit streaming, there’s no need to start looking at workout apps that focus on training instruction of any sorts. That said, if you’re looking for more in-depth training metrics to complement your fitness journey, we have some options for you. At top of mind, the Strava App has become a go-to for cardio enthusiasts of all sorts. Runners and cyclists alike will use the app for tracking rides and runs. This app is especially helpful if you also enjoy running outdoors (weather permitting), both because you can compile all of your workouts in one place, and because the community aspect of the app will help outdoor runners find new and challenging routes that have been shared by other users. For more information on the Strava App, read Our Strava App review here.

In a similar vein, Google Fit—the simple fitness tracking software that’s compatible with countless Android smartwatches—could also prove useful to you. Use it to track your cardio and other workouts (yoga, strength, HIIT, and others), and maintain an easy-to-digest record of your progress. While both Strava and Google Fit are free, Strava does gatekeep some of its “premium functionality” for paid subscribers. For more information on the Google Fit App, read our Google Fit review found here.

Features

The workout surface is oversized at 22-inch x 60-inch, so there’s plenty of room to take full strides. The tread belt is high quality, two-ply, and resistant to stretching. Its maximum speed is 12 mph, and the incline range is -3 to 15 percent. The new 2022 model brings improvements to this feature and makes the incline and decline much faster and smoother. What’s more, commercial-grade cushioning facilitates much less impact to your joints compared with an outdoor track. This feature helps users train for longer and with less chance of injury. It can also be deactivated to help prepare for outdoor competition.

The 1750 also includes patented Space-Saver technology. With the help of hydraulics, the deck gently lifts to save floor space after workouts and when unlocked it drops softly back to the floor.

The physical features of this treadmill include a 14-inch smart HD touchscreen which pivots and tilt, Bluetooth compatible speakers, a set of AutoBreeze™ workout fans, and an integrated tray for storage of personal items such as your phone, keys and water bottles. Options for monitoring your heart rate on this machine come by way of the Bluetooth compatible heart rate system, although a chest strap is not included with purchase) Heart rate monitoring allows users to more accurately track their progress and challenge their cardiovascular abilities. Bluetooth on the 1750 treadmill is used to either pair your headphones to listen to the iFit programming, to connect your smartphone/tablet to play music, or to connect the aforementioned Bluetooth heart rate monitor (either from NordicTrack, or third-party devices from brands including Polar, Garmin, Wahoo, and a number of WHOOP products).

Training Tips for the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 Treadmill

Treadmills are a great tool for weight loss, particularly for those who also lift weights or can’t run outside. As a competitive bodybuilder and powerlifter, I perform a lot of barbell squats and deadlifts which produce a great deal of mass around my quads and hamstrings. This makes long distance running less enjoyable as my legs are heavy and I get the burn of lactic acid long before my cardiovascular system is actually taxed.

One great feature of the Commercial 1750 Treadmill is its improved automatic incline and decline. Studies show that while the average 160-pound person might burn 300 calories per hour on a treadmill at 4 mph, changing the incline to just 5% will boost that to 500 calories, and 10% ups it to 700. For those who can’t, or don’t want to, run at higher speeds for distance, using the incline and decline can make up the difference quite nicely. University studies have shown that walking just 3 mph on a 12% incline can raise heart rates as much as running 6 mph on a flat surface. Consider incorporating incline training into the mix of your treadmill workouts, particularly if you’re short on time, or joint issues or other body metrics make running a problem.

What’s Changed For This Year

Each year a few models get upgrades. Larger screens, stronger motors, or better tech are common. Occasionally you will see two treadmills with the same name on the manufacturers site, which is confusing enough for us treadmill experts, let alone a new consumer. Below is a quick breakdown of what is new on the latest version of this treadmill.

New for 2022 (January 2022 release)

  • Updated HD Touchscreen: In addition to growing from 10 inches to 14, the new model also brings a tilt and pivot feature.
  • Improved Response: Upgraded auto-adjust technology improves the speed and smoothness of the -3% and 15% decline/incline function.
  • Upgraded Sound: Premium audio speakers have been added to the treadmill for more immersive training, whether by way of trainers’ voices or music.
  • More Heart Rate Options: Equipped with AudioPulse Cardio Cruise Control, the treadmill can automatically adjust incline and speed to match the user’s heart rate.

New for 2021 (November 2020 release)

  • Updated HD Touchscreen: Improved processing and dual-band WiFi compatibility will ensure a more seamless video experience when following along to live or streaming workout classes. Improved HD graphics performance with added processor cooling.
  • New Mobile App: iFit is now also available as a mobile app for your smartphone.
  • Quiet Drive Incline Tech: The incline drivers on the 1750 are smoother and quieter than ever, and allow for more precise control during instructor-led classes. Quieter is always better, especially when you need to follow guidance/instruction.
  • Bluetooth Upgrade: Previously you could use Bluetooth to pair your phone to your treadmill, allowing you to listen to your own playlists while working out. Now, you can pair your Bluetooth headphones to your treadmill, so that you can listen to your instructor without disturbing the whole house.
  • Expanded iFit Offer: In previous years, these treadmills would come with an individual 1-year iFit membership, but for 2021 these memberships have been upgraded to family memberships—perfect for households with multiple runners.
  • Faster Connectivity: Upgraded with dual 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz Wi-Fi Connectivity and new Android 9 Operating System.
  • More Interactive Workouts: New automatic trainer control allows for better options when used with the iFit program.

The first problem with the 2950 is the massive display. For shorter runners, like me, I'm really having to get close to the screen to reach the far corners, where the little tiny icons are located. It's awkward and interrupts my stride. Similarly, when leaning a tablet against the screen, it prevents you from reaching many of the little buttons on the bottom middle of the screen, though they aren't intuitive icons anyway. I wish they'd added the ability to lower the whole console or remove the giant screen- it's very enclosing, and the fan is intended to reach people who are about 6' tall and above- it just blows over my head. It's a treadmill that is meant for runners with low self efficacy and it's really not a good match for those of us who know how to train and want to do so with minimal fuss. It's all flash and no better than the less expensive models- does anyone actually use these billions of included workouts? I don't know anyone who does. Best for people new to exercise and needing pre-recorded videos or set workouts to get going.

The 2019 does not have a tablet holder I have seen reviews and a video on you tube talking about a tablet holder. So just wanted to let you know there is no available tablet holder for the 2019 model. There is nothing in the manual about it or how to order one nordictrack may have it available in the future. It does have a place for one to be mounted. Anyway just wanted let other people know so they won’t be disappointed as I was.
    • Krissy Selda June 5, 2019 at 11:36 am
Hi KW, in the new 2019 model, the ledge created by the fan unit below the display acts as a tablet holder. It's no longer an additional bracket, but it is still designed to safely hold a tablet. The new design makes the machine more sleek, however when using the tablet holder, it will block the built-in display. The idea is that if you're using the iFit programs for training, you won't need your tablet, whereas if you're just running, then you won't need the iFit programs. Hope that helps!
