NordicTrack Incline Trainer X7i Black

Editor's Rating: 8.5/10
Update: This model has been discontinued. To find a suitable replacement, check out our treadmill finder here.

The limited-edition NordicTrack Incline Trainer X7i “Black” is a sleek black version of the original X7i, NordicTrack’s top-level incline trainer. Like all NordicTrack Incline Trainers, it’s a hybrid between a regular treadmill and a stairclimber. A trainee can walk at a 0% incline, but they can also tilt the track by up to 40%.

This unit is sold with lifetime warranties on the motor and frame plus a year of coverage for other parts and labor.

What We Like

  • Low-impact workouts: By walking on the X7i Black, a walker can achieve results more quickly like a runner but put less stress on his or her body. This unit features Reflex Cushioning so that exercisers get a firm push-off point at one end of the track and a soft landing point at the other.
  • Efficient workouts: Like all NordicTrack incline trainers, the X7i tilts to a 40% incline – and as personal trainer Jillian Michaels has stated, training at a 40% incline burns five times the calories of walking flat! This machine also declines by 6% for extra muscle toning. (For comparison, the NordicTrack X3 does not decline and the X5i declines by 3%.) An 8” console fan is included to help people power through strenuous workouts.
  • Color Console with Entertainment: The X7i Black comes with a full-color 7” touch-screen display. It’s equipped with Google Trails technology so that users can virtually hike through Arches National Park, Yosemite, and other North American landmarks. Other entertainment options include virtually racing against Facebook friends, hooking up an iPod or other MP3 player, and working out with Jillian Michaels iFit cards.
  • Longer track: The quiet 55” track on this incline trainer is long enough for most people to use while running, especially since strides shorten on an incline.

Our Verdict

The X7i Black incline trainer is an excellent option for exercisers who want highly efficient low-impact workouts. Some of its upgrades over earlier trainers include Google Trails technology, a 6% decline, a greater weight capacity, and a larger fan. A longer parts warranty or a discount price would make the NordicTrack X7i Black a four and a half star workout machine.
