A Premium Home Treadmill with 10-Year Parts Protection

The Precor 9.31 treadmill appears in the middle of Precor’s lineup, but is priced on the higher end. What explains the bumped up price? A ten-year parts warranty and reversible deck make this a treadmill the long haul. Other features include variable cushioning, Integrated Footplant technology and wireless telemetry. There are eight preset workout modes and a safety lock. This is a machine that will serve shoppers for years to come.

What We Like:

  • Footplant Technology: “Footplant” is unique to Precor. This technology can adjust the motor’s speed hundreds of times per second to synchronize the treadmill’s motion with your own. By reducing your joint stress, this feature helps you maximize aerobic intensity.
  • Track Cushioning: Another Precor patent, Ground Effects Impact Control technology, is a form of advanced cushioning. It further minimizes fatigue and helps prevent injury by providing extra firmness at the point of push-off and extra cushioning where your feet hit the track.
  • Track Incline: Enhance your calorie burn and muscle toning with incline training. The Precor 9.31’s track can tilt up to 15%. Exercising at a steep incline will also reduces the impact on your knees by shifting weight distribution.
  • Motor: Precor treadmills have commercial-quality 3.0 HP continuous duty motors. You can expect quiet and smooth operation.
  • Programming: Eight preset programs will help trainees meet goals for endurance, weight loss. and cardiovascular fitness.
  • Low maintenance: Simply plug in and run. This low maintenance machine is expertly welded and the track is maintenance free. Simply keep dust from accumulating and your treadmill should run smoothly for a decade or longer.
  • Warranty: Owners get a lifetime warranty on the frame, ten years of parts protection, and one year of labor.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Short Track Length: The 56” track length isn’t long enough for tall runners.
  • Moderate programming: We’d like to see more programming on a home treadmill at this price point. The Eight preset programs are adequate, but not nearly enough.

Our Verdict:

The 9.31 treadmill seems to derive its high price from its extra durability. Many customers would be just as happy with the far more affordable Precor 9.27. The 9.27 has the same cushioning and also makes micro-adjustments for your stride, although its footplant technology isn’t as advanced. People who train very heavily and people who are very heavy, might find that the more durable Precor 9.31 treadmill is the better buy. But for most users, that price increase simply won’t be worth it no matter how long their treadmill lasts.
