NordicTrack EXP 14i Review
This Treadmill Could Be For You If You Want:
- Unlimited simulated workout programs
- Incline and decline options
- Folding capabilities to save space
- Touchscreen that doesn’t wobble when running fast
Big improvements are rolling into the home treadmill market for 2023, and at the top NordicTrack’s EXP Series comes the 14i. New for 2023, the EXP 14i looks a lot like the EXP 10i but with a 14-inch screen as opposed to 10-inch and better options for heart rate training. Priced at $1,899 and $1,599 respectively, these offer a 3.0 and 2.75 CHP motor and more features than the significantly less expensive EXP 7i. The entry level EXP 7i does offer a budget-friendly price of $1,199 and an understandably smaller 2.6 CHP motor and tilting 7-inch screen.
As a brand, NordicTrack continues in its quest for home fitness dominance by way of interactive training and immersive technology. And while the new 2023 version of the Commercial 1750 may be part of a different category within that family, I’d say it offers the closest rival to the EXP 14i and is a better deal overall.
The EXP 14i measures 70.8 inches x 34.9 inches x 59.7 inches and weighs 229 pounds in-box, making for a good-sized home treadmill. The big advantages it offers over the EXP 10i is a 14-inch HD Touchscreen, Google Maps Workouts, Bluetooth heart rate connectivity, EKG grip pulse sensors in the handlebars, and an integrated device shelf. This model also features NordicTrack’s new ActivePulse Cruise Control technology which allows the machine to automatically adjust the machine’s incline and speed based on the runner’s heart rate. This does require a separate purchase of a SmartBeat forearm heart rate monitor. Combined with the iFit-enabled trainer control, this is one smart machine and definitely in step with the latest in exercise technology.
In terms of the other specs, it’s similar to most of its peers in the market. Built iFit-enabled, purchase comes with a free 30-day trial of the interactive workout app which includes such features as live trainers able to control the machine’s speed and incline from remote locations. Connectivity for Bluetooth headphones and two digitally amplified speakers help out both in terms of interactive training as well as music or other forms of entertainment.
The NordicTrack EXP 14i features an incline of 12% with a top speed of 12 mph. Running off a 3.0 CHP Plus Motor, the treadmill features OneTouch Controls and a Smart-Response Drive System on 1.9-inch precision and balanced non-flex rollers. This is a downgrade from the 2022 model which featured a 3.5 CHP motor and offered a decline option of -3%. With an industry-standard tread belt of 20- by 55 inches, a FlexSelect Cushioning system helps the machine absorb the shock of pounding feet. Comfort features include both an integrated tray and device shelf as well as a workout fan.
NordicTrack also offers free threshold delivery and a 30-day return policy. You’re protected with a 10-year warranty on the frame, two years for parts, and one year for labor.
What We Like:
- Motor: In terms of home treadmill performance, the EXP 14i brings a good motor. A Smart-Response motor with 3.0 CHP, it can be relied upon to reach speeds up to 12 mph, great for high intensity interval training (HIIT), jogging, or walking.
- Bigger Touch Screen: A 14-inch HD Smart Touchscreen puts this unit in line with most user’s comfort zone. Sized so runners can easily flip between programs without strain, it’s designed to work in conjunct with the iFit program and interact with live trainers. Runners can also travel the world by way of Google Street Views.
- Incline: The EXP 14i features automatic trainer control as well as 12% incline. For runners looking to earn the burn, the incline and decline certainly make a big difference in calories spent.
- ActivePulse Cruise Control: The idea that the treadmill can automatically adjust itself to help users hit a specific cardio zone is just proof we’re living in the 21st Century. For those looking to cut weight or improve athletic performance, this is a great way to tailor the workout to the individual.
- Bluetooth Audio and Heart Rate: The EXP 14i, like much of the NordicTrack lineup, has Bluetooth audio capabilities, so users can listen to music through a set of two-inch digitally amplified speakers wirelessly. The ability to connect instructor-led training to headphones is also key, as is the option of using a different heart rate monitor than the EKG pulse sensors in the handlebars.
- Cushioning Preferences: Whether jogging or running hard, a good home treadmill needs solid deck support. FlexSelect™ cushioning softens the blow when you need it.
- Workout Fan: Running in the home is running nonetheless, and to avoid a mess of sweat on the unit this treadmill offers a pair of dual AutoBreeze workout fans
- Easy Folding: With a SpaceSaver Design, folding up the EXP 14i is very simple.
- Weight Capacity: This is a pretty heavy-duty treadmill and can support users of up to 300 pounds.

What We Don’t Like:
- iFit Dependent: Granted, the machine does work without the app, but the screen itself and many of the features are really designed with iFit in mind. Without it, a cheaper unit might make sense. After the 30-day free trial, the program costs $39 per month.
- Reduced Offerings: The 2023 model brings a smaller motor and less features than the year prior with no noticeable difference in price.
Our Verdict:
Overall, the EXP 14i is a great new model, and I’d give it the nod over the 10i due to the screen size difference of four inches and better heart rate function. That said, I’m a little disappointed to see some of the features being reduced here. Prices for everything are going up due to inflation, and treadmills are no different. That said, I like the size of the EXP 14i as it fits a little better inside homes, and for most consumers, it hits the Goldilocks spot.
