NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Review: One Workhorse of a Treadmill

Editor's Rating: 8.5 /10

It’s a workhorse of a treadmill for sure, and whenever I get on a NordicTrack Commercial 2450 I know I’m about to lose weight. There’s a reason this treadmill has earned a top spot in customer reviews as a folding treadmill that suits both runners and walkers. In my experience there’s definitely a market for an upscale model like this, with a rugged body that can take whatever pounding your family’s feet may offer. Priced at $2,999 it’s definitely not for the casual user, but rather someone who plans to log a lot of miles on it.

As with the rest of the models in the NordicTrack lineup, the 2450 includes a high-definition touchscreen, but with this model it both tilts and pivots and measures 22 inches across. That’s a big monitor for sure. And as I’d expect, it comes loaded with premium Bluetooth audio speakers, Bluetooth ActivePulse Technology, and automatic trainer control if used in conjunction with the iFit workout app. This allows the treadmill’s programming to automatically adjust the speed and incline of the deck to match the user’s heart rate as they exercise, or as part of either live or on-demand programming. All in all, this is about as high-tech as it gets in a market rife with competition.

The iFit program is a big bonus when combined with a treadmill featuring 12% incline, -3% decline, and 0-12 mph speed range. When I’m using it as part of a mountain hiking program, I not only get a trainer-led video and scenic show, but the machine does all the work of speeding up and slowing down, as well as raising and lowering itself. The same with my own Bluetooth heart rate monitor that tells the machine where I’m at and where I’m supposed to be.

The Commercial 2450 comes with 10 years of warranty coverage on the frame, two years on parts, including motor and electronics, as well as one year on labor. In addition, buyers are treated to free shipping of the $2,999 unit as well as a 30-day money-back guarantee.

In Brief

The 2024 NordicTrack Commercial 2450 is an upscale home unit just a notch above the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 in all respects. Measuring 78.5″ x 35.6″ x 65″ with an in-box weight of 303 pounds, this folding treadmill can support up to 400 pounds in user weight. I will note that the 22″ high-definition touchscreen both swivels and pivots, but really only works with the iFit workout app. Yes, you can use the treadmill without the $15-39 per month app, but it will be in manual mode and the screen loses a lot of value. In terms of raw workout capacity, the 3.6 CHP motor is built to handle as much as you can put on the 20″ x 60″ running deck. I’m also impressed that we get both -3% decline and 12% incline with a folding unit and speeds up to 12mph. As a contrast, I see this treadmill as stacking up well with another highly-rated treadmill, the Sole F80, similarly priced. The big differences between those two will be Sole’s built-in programs and the free Sole+ app versus NordicTrack’s iFit programming and automatic trainer control, not to mention the 22″ tilt/swivel touchscreen on the 2450.

In-Depth Review of the NordicTrack Commercial 2450

Why We Like It

If you’re a “bigger is better” fan, then clearly you’re reading the right review. As I’ve written before, the iFit workout app happens to be one of my favorite and this brand of treadmill is built to go along with. The 2450 is the next size up from the ever-popular 1750, and if you’re into cars and trucks, I’d say it’s Ford F-250 to the F-150. To be frank, the only real difference between those two NordicTrack units are the screen size, with the 1750’s measuring 14 inches to the 2450’s 22 inches, and the motor is a wee bit bigger on the latter. In terms of performance, they’re very similar.

It Comes With A Tremendous 22″ High-Definition Touchscreen

If you like interactive workout programming, this is the way to go. Right up front, if you’re not going to participate in the iFit workout program, then I’d just shop elsewhere. But if you do want live trainer-led programming and access to Google Maps workouts and thousands of on-demand programs, then a 22″ touchscreen is just the cat’s meow. You can tilt, pivot, or even swivel this monitor around to suit yourself, whether on or off the machine. In my experience using the screen, it’s easy to use and see with great Bluetooth connectivity. Given the short distance between yourself and the monitor, it’s like having a movie screen with premium surround-sound while you train. Let’s face it, if you’re shopping this model, it’s because of the screen size.

The iFit workout app

Priced at either $15 per month for a single person, or $39 for the family, the iFit program is unlike any other I’ve ever used. In addition to live trainer workouts you also get a library numbering thousands of incredibly high-quality workout programs. I really like the hiking programs through Scotland and Italy, which remind me a bit of National Geographic shows. Downloadable on any device, you can take it with you and use it for anything from free weights and biking to yoga and nutrition programming. All NordicTrack and ProForm equipment these days is coming iFit-enabled, and that means you’ll get the automatic trainer control package which allows the program to take over the workout and adjust the incline, decline, and speed as you exercise. I have yet to see any other AI-workout program quite like it.

It Folds Up Easily

I do admit my love for folding treadmills is strong, and I’ve written extensively about them here. Don’t think folding means weak. Quite the opposite. With the patented EasyLift Assist button, you can simply lift up the rear of the unit and watch it slide up into place. It’s also incredibly simple to unfold thanks to the hydraulics, and you can read my step-by-step here with pictures. The whole process times out at about 8 seconds up, and 12 seconds down, per my own stopwatch. Folding treadmills roll easily about a floor on two front-mounted wheels. But they’re also easier to keep clean, repair, and lubricate the belts. If you do want to roll the unit to the side of the room when not in use, you’ll find the process easier than moving a bookshelf.

Good Incline/Decline Features

I love the fact that the 2450 has a 12% incline and -3% decline. There are a few models that will go higher, but I myself very rarely go over 12% in my own training. If you’re looking for a real mountain to climb, read our review of the NordicTrack X22i and X32i, which both sport 40% inclines. The difference between 12% and 15% just isn’t that significant. The good news is, the unit still features decline, which is terrific in that it works completely different muscle groups. Whether using one of iFit’s travel workouts or the iFit’s Google Maps, these incline/decline settings really do mimic the hills and hollers of tracks in Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, or even Anarctica.

I really can’t emphasize enough how important incline and decline training are when it comes to weight loss. It really doesn’t matter how much of an incline you add into a workout, you can tell the difference immediately when you try it.

NordicTrack 2450 Dimensions

The dimensions of the NordicTrack Commercial 2450 are 78.5’L x 35.6′ W x 65′ H.

To ensure the entire dimensions of the Nordictrack 2450 will fit, we suggest having space around the deck clear for when you use the treadmill. Proper ceiling height is very important to consider as well, as this treadmill has a 9.5” step-up height from floor to top of the side rails when at a flat grade. Make sure to factor 6” in deck height when at full incline. If you are an avid runner, and are 6’0″ or taller, make sure you put the treadmill in a room with at least a 8.4 ft high ceiling height or you won’t be able to use all of this treadmill’s features.

NordicTrack 2450 Weight

The NordicTrack Commercial 2450 treadmill weighs 303 pounds and has a maximum. user weight of 400 pounds.

What We Like:

  • The Motor

The Commercial 2450 offers a 3.6 CHP motor and reaches speeds of up to 12 mph without making much noice at all. I have treadmills on wooden floors in my house and I’ve yet to hear this one rattle.

  • Pivot/Tilt/Swivel Touchscreen

These days, you’re either into touchscreen panels or you’re not. With this model comes a 22″ touchscreen which allows you to flip between workout programs, check calories and miles, and use iFit so you can take advantage of on-the-go fitness guidance. You’ll also be able to run through real streets by checking out Google Street Views or using HD video feature that offers exercise paths around the world. The value of the swivel function is you can watch from the floor if you get out the dumbbells.

  • iFit Treadmill Workouts

This treadmill’s -3% to 12% decline/incline feature syncs with the elevations and dips of the landscape you choose to explore through iFit’s Google Maps feature, ensuring that it really does feel like you’re running outside on that terrain. This feature is ideal for those who struggle to stay motivated to keep exercising as it allows you to explore new locations. The incline is fast and quiet, going up and down at a rate of about 1 second each degree. So you can be at the 12% mark in the just 12 seconds, then back down to -3%.

  • iFit Data Tracking

iFit keeps tabs on fitness stats with every session. Whenever a workout is completed, the data is logged into the treadmill and then paired with any other device on iFit. This makes getting exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle recommendations easier.

  • Incline & Decline Abilities

The NordicTrack 2450 offers both a 12% incline and 3% decline to burn calories, increase your resting metabolic rate, ramp up cardiovascular conditioning level, and build muscle strength simultaneously. In my experience, this is great for High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) because you can ramp up and down quickly. Those prone to injuries will also find that going on an incline is far easier on their body as even a 1-2% gradient can help take some of the impact off the joints. Best of all, with new and improved auto-adjust technology, these transitions are fast and done by the program itself.

  • Bluetooth Audio

Bluetooth audio capabilities allow me to hear to your favorite workout playlists through Premium Audio Speakers wirelessly, as well as sync with any number of other devices. I’ve yet to find a genre of music not online these days. The ability to connect instructor-led training to your Bluetooth headphones is a nice plus. I’ve never had a problem syncing with my unit and I even have satellite Internet. It usually takes about 5 seconds to connect.

  • Tread Belt

This 60″ x 20″ tread belt gives you plenty of space to move, and at 2″ wider than the industry standard, it easily accommodates larger individuals. What’s more, the belt’s thickness helps to minimize the amount of noise it makes while offering better overall longevity. Also, this is a 2-ply belt which is the preferred type, as opposed to a cheaper 1-ply belt. A regularly lubricated 2-ply belt could last you 10 years depending on use.

  • Cushioning Preferences

Prepping for a road on a cushy deck makes things too easy. This treadmill offers the ability to turn the cushioning on or off according to your preferences so you can save your joints and use the cushioning only when you need it. Keep in mind that by having it off, you’re adding 30% more impact to your joints, so you shouldn’t train this way in the long term.

  • Cooling Options

If you want to stay cool while you run or walk, the Commercial 2450’s dual AutoBreeze workout fans will do the trick. While this may seem like a treadmill luxury rather than a necessity, it’s definitely nice to have while you work out.

  • Weight Capacity

This is a pretty heavy-duty treadmill and can support users of up to 400 pounds.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Short Warranty

Yes, you get 10 years on the frame, but only 2 years on parts and electronics. Rival treadmills offer 15 years to life for the frame and at least 5 years for the motor.

  • iFit-Dependent

Yes, the machine will work without the $15-39 per month iFit program, but you’ll lose all the features which make the treadmill a great buy. The treadmill effectively goes into a manual-only mode as there are no built-in programs.

  • Hard to Assemble

NordicTrack is like most treadmill manufacturers these days and they’ll offer you in-home assembly. My advice is to take it. I outline the steps of treadmill right here but go ahead and figure on needing at least three friends and an hour. There’s really no way for you to do this alone. It’s no more complicated than building with Legos, if the Legos are 340 pounds. The deck is just too big at 80″ in length and 38″ in width. I’ve assembled Echelon, NordicTrack, and ProForm units myself and come to the conclusion you’re just better off having it done by the moving team. You can see how to install and assemble this treadmill by following the NordicTrack installation video:

This Treadmill Could Be For You If You Want:

  • A workhorse of a treadmill
  • A big 22″ high-definition touchscreen
  • Incline and decline functions
  • A quiet treadmill motor that can accommodate long-distance running, interval training, and speeds up to 12 mph
  • Cushioning for joint protection with an option to disable to mimic outdoor road running

My Verdict:

If you’re looking to lose weight, look no further. The size and stability of this machine will let you pound the pavement with the best of them. The automatic trainer control afforded by way of iFit is also a great way to guarantee the workout. The one comment I continually make about NordicTrack treadmills is they’re iFit-dependent, meaning yes, you can use the machine without the app, but it’s not much fun. If you’re into live workouts and automatic trainer control which can take you on virtual mountain hikes, then the NordicTrack Commercial 2450 is a luxury unit for $2,999. That said, it is just under the $3K mark and that has to be a consideration, I understand. The biggest difference between this model and the NordicTrack Commercial 1750 is the screen size, and frankly that’s another $1,000 for eight inches of screen. That said, if you’re not into connected workouts and just want a model on which you can run, then the Sole and Horizon lineups are strong too. Consider a quick comparison chart below…
