Yowza Delray Review

Note: It appears that Yowza has gone out of business so please beware that if you buy a machine from them that it is going to be as-is.

The Delray series was redesigned in 2015 and features five models, ranging in price from $999 to $1,699. The Delray is the entry-level model in the series, which is designed with a non-folding patented Swing Armâ„¢ platform for top cushioning technology, and a compact design.

The Delray, offered for $999, includes basic performance features that include a 2.75 HP motor, 12 incline levels and speeds up to 11.2 mph. The 1.6mm double layer running belt offers a running space of 20 inches by 55 inches, and the deck is made with high density fiber wood. This model offers the smallest running space of all of the other models in the series, so if you are looking for a more spacious deck, consider the Delray Plus or Delray Grande that offer a 20″ x 60″ running area, or the Delray Elite with an impressive 20″ x 63″ deck.

When it comes to the console, the Delray is designed with an LCD computer display that features Yowza’s very own express speed and incline buttons for one-touch, easy speed/incline changes right from the console. Users can also access one of the 8 built-in workouts (that include target programs, speed interval, and weight loss programs), and monitor heart rate via the built in sensors on the stationary handlebars. There is even a heart rate control program and Fitness Test program that uses information based on Heart Rate Recovery.

What We Like:

  • Swing-arm suspension: Yowza’s patented cushioning technology reduces impact on joints while also improving caloric burn by up to 23% at every workout. This swing-arm design works by allowing the entire deck to move, absorbing impact everywhere, not just at the point of impact.
  • Price: This is a quality treadmill that is offered for just under $1,000. Yowza is a well-known brand offering impressive warranties, which means they stand behind their brand no matter the price or model.
  • Warranty: Although we have seen some customer service issues recently, Yowza is known for their impressive warranties, which on this model include a lifetime warranty on the frame, 3 years on parts and electronics and 1 year in home labor warranty
  • Express Keys: Convenience is always something we like to see, and the Delray entry-level model comes with this unique feature by Yowza.
  • Mediaport: Easily integrate your favorite mobile device into your treadmill while you enjoy internet access, music, etc. from your tablet or mobile device. Users also have access to built-in speakers, an MP3 plug and USB for charging devices. Mediaport also comes enabled with Intelligent Weight Management (IWM), Yowza’s wireless digital weight scale technology.
  • Money Back Period: Yowza offers a 30-day money back guarantee on all of these models in the series.

What We Don’t Like:

  • Display Area: The display screens on the Delray series in general aren’t too impressive, but on this model, we find that the display screen is smaller and darker, and lacks anything too flashy beyond the bare basics. However, if these aren’t qualities you seek in a treadmill, this might not be too bothersome.
  • Motor: 2.75 HP isn’t anything to rave about. It’s decent, but we like to see motors of at least 3.0HP when you get up to the $1,000 price point. The motor strength also impacts the max user weight, limiting who can safely use the treadmill.
  • Short Running Area: Most running areas feature decks of at least a 60 inches in length, but the Delray reaches to only 55 inches, which can be problematic for taller people or anyone looking to do longer sprint runs.
  • No built-in fan: Staying cool may be more difficult on this model that lacks a cooling fan on the console area.

Our Verdict:

Yowza’s new Delray series for 2015 is a solid line of treadmills with great performance features and reasonable prices. The warranties are also impressive, which says a lot about the brand and quality of the equipment. Of all of the machines in the series, we think this model and the Delray Plus (offered for $1,000 more) are the best buys as they have basic performance features and durable decks and frames. However; if you are looking for a larger running area and a stronger motor, the more high-end models in the series, like the Grande and Elite, may be a better fit if you are willing to spend a few hundred dollars more.
