Treadmill Financing Options

Treadmills these days come in all sizes, with prices ranging from a couple hundred dollars up to $10,000-plus. Whether you’re looking for a new or used model, financing is certainly a big consideration. The good news is nearly all treadmill manufacturers offer great financing packages, which means you don’t necessarily need to whip out the check book just yet.

Using the manufacturer’s financing plan can be beneficial if you’re a savvy shopper who’s caught them during one of their big sales. Competition is fierce in the world of home fitness and deals are very common, particularly in terms of finance specials. Other benefits include the ease of application while shopping. Pick out your unit and click, click, click. But let the buyer beware. Make sure you read through all the details as all such financing comes with a qualification process and your credit score will be considered. Just like with buying cars, the term “payment as low as” does not guarantee that payment. As a rule, the pricier the treadmill, the more likely you are to consider financing. Lower-cost models are simply easier to buy with cash.

Read below to see some examples of major treadmill manufacturers and the kind of programs they’re offering. Don’t be surprised to see $0 down and 0% interest quite frequently.

NordicTrack Treadmills

NordicTrack treadmills are routinely among our favorites for review. Whether the $1,299 NordicTrack EXP 7i to the $4,499 NordicTrack X32i, the lineup comes complete with company financing and monthly payment options. One option customers can either select is 0% APR for 12 or 39 months with equal payments, with 0% APR from the date of purchase until full payment is made. The monthly payment will be purchase amount divided by the number of payments. A second option is 4.99% for 39 or 43 monthly payments until the purchase is paid in full. With this option, the monthly payment amount equals the purchase amount and estimated interest for the length of the offer divided by the number of months in the offer. These offers are subject to credit approval, with NordicTrack financing issued by TD Bank, N.A. Purchases also come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

For example, the NordicTrack EXP 14i, priced at $1,899 and can be financed for $64 per month for 39 months at 4.99% APR, or $192 per month at 0% APR for 12 months.

Cash or Credit?

It’s no secret, financing is easy to get. Sometimes a little too easy. Do note that all of these financing offers are contingent upon the customer’s credit score and other qualifications. Retailer from Walmart to Dick’s Sporting Goods all offer some kind of payment system for their products. Be sure to check the details though as these 0% APR deals can turn into 29% or even 36% depending on other factors. Other options of course include using your own credit card, home equity line of credit, or just good old-fashioned cash. How you decide to finance the machine will largely depend on the price. If you’re shopping for a $750 unit, cash is probably the easiest option. If it’s a pricier $5,000 machine, then payments would be easier.

If you are shopping for a treadmill check out our Five Step Treadmill Buying Guide for a step-by-step check list of things to consider. As with most machines, the price of the unit is one of the first considerations. But with a good financing package, that $2,500 treadmill could be yours for less than a monthly gym membership. And for many fans of home fitness, that’s probably the best measure. How much do you spend per month on a gym membership, versus the monthly cost of a new treadmill? Is it worth it.

Another point to consider is the longevity of the treadmill. You do get what you pay for in life and cheaper treadmills typically don’t last as long as pricier models. Just look at the warranty and you can see the difference. Before you lock yourself into a 36-month payment plan, be sure this is something you’ll want for three full years. While reading through the specs, check out the details on its deck and belt system,as well as the motor. No one wants to finance a treadmill for even 12 months and then want to get rid of it before it’s paid off.

In the end, financing a new treadmill can be a great way to get a new machine for a low monthly cost. But as with all things, knowledge is power and doing it the right way make the difference between success and failure.
